Mella Shaw

Mella’s publicly-engaged environmental work has its roots in activism with an intention to bring lesser-known issues to a new audience to enact change.

Mella has a background in Anthropology and museum curation and display which underpins her varied ceramics practice. Graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2013 Mella shows nationally and internationally, having pieces in various public and private collections and was the winner of the Award Prize at the British Ceramics Biennial 2024. 

As well as teaching in ceramics at Edinburgh Design school, Mella is a Visiting Lecturer on the BA Ceramic Design Course at Central SaintMartins, London. Mela is currently the recipient of the Henry Rothschild Memorial Ceramics Bursary.
