Overview

This nationally devised award is validated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority and aims to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to build portfolios for entry into higher level Diploma and Degree level courses or simply to nurture a passion in Art and Design ceramics.

The course is taught by highly experienced teacher ceramicists each with their own profile in the Creative Industries. The course is very practical, taught by assignments and aimed at school leavers and adults with a passion for developing skills in pottery and ceramics.

The course is taught over a single academic year. Students on completion of the award will achieve 12 SQA Credits and the Award of National Certificate in Art and Design: The course is timetabled over three studio days per week with 2.5 dedicated to learning and teaching and an additional half day dedicated to self directed individual and peer group practice.

The course has six core strands. These are: Hand building, Wheel throwing, Surface, Glaze technology, Creative process and application and Art & Design Context.

Four National 5s or UAL Level 2 or equivalent A good general understanding of the creative process from either school college or previous study and experience in a creative environment or ceramics studio You must submit a portfolio that demonstrates your art and design skills and understanding of the creative and process and contexts. Adult learners with relevant employment/life experience/skills will be considered for entry to this course. English Proficiency IELTS 5.5 required.
