Assessment

Your work is assessed by project brief.

Each brief has a defined outcome underpinned by learning the skills and techniques appropriate to the brief with art direction from tutors. Assessment takes place at the end of each project where you are marked against a checklist of project related tasks and skills. Written and oral feedback is given by tutors. This lets you know how well you are doing and offers opportunities for further discovery and  improvement.

You must pass each project brief to progress and the Graded Unit which takes place at the end of year 1 and 2. The Graded unit is an opportunity to work on an extended portfolio project and receive a grade (A,B,C). Students are expected to attend all classes, be able to follow instruction, meet deadlines, discuss and present their work in group settings, make numerical calculations and write contextual essays.

Course Structure

Teaching approaches include lectures, demonstrations, specialist workshops, group and individual tutorials and visits to galleries and studios.

Time in the studio is important and working and learning with peers and technicians is as important as working with tutors.

On successful completion of the course, we expect students to be ready to start working in the Creative Industries as studio potters or ceramic sculptors with their own or shared studios or to progress to degree level study in year 2 or 3.
