Long before the wheel, Ceramicists used hand building techniques to make some of the best pottery around. This SQA Certificate course teaches you these essential pottery skills and takes hand building to the next level. You have the opportunity to gain a formal SQA certificate too.

Overview
This unit is designed to introduce you to hand-built pottery processes. It is one of a range of introductory ceramics units which familiarise you with the working practices, materials and processes used in the ceramics studio.
You will work with tutorial support to prepare and handle ceramic materials, produce pinch pots, coil pots and slab pots and use one of these techniques to create a pot which explores the creative and technical potential of the material. You will apply decoration and glaze to pots and demonstrate a knowledge of the properties of clay and the firing process.

Weekly classes over 10 weeks, 3 hours per week. You will attend the same day and session for all eight weeks of the course.
